Steinglacier Waterfall

Depicts the waterfall, at Steingletscher, Sustenpass , Switzerland. Oil on Canvas, blocked in on-site and finished in the studio from an on-site pastel painting I made last year. One finds this thundering cascade by turning R at the last but one curve near Sustenpass and taking a toll (CHF 5-) road up into the high mountains. Capturing the light is a fascinating task as the shadows on the boulders and w aterfall itself are transient. One has to make sure that the shadows are consistent overall as one progresses into the painting ( The first shadow angle may not match the one you paint in  later). It is also tricky becaue the mountains in the background "intrude"  into the forgeround as the air is so clear. Here one needs to apply atmospheric perspective to solve the problem.
